Case in point--another trend that swallows up the 5'2" girlies like me...but go for it if you can pull it off! I'll stick to the mini dress, thank you Smiling

lady-T on Thu, 04/05/2007 - 9:41am

SaRaH 22 on Thu, 04/05/2007 - 9:48am

nathalhya on Thu, 04/05/2007 - 10:24am

I'm 5'4" and I can wear the maxi dresses. I love the first one, it just makes me think of dining beach side in the Bahamas!

Thanks for posting this. I've been looking for a good maxi dress for quite a while now.

fluffypuff on Thu, 04/05/2007 - 10:38am

I love long dresses, but you have to do it right or you end up looking really off...

BeeMoney on Thu, 04/05/2007 - 10:47am

first one is ugly. 2nd one is a dress that most people can wear. 3rd one, u really have to be good looking to pull it off, that's why the model look so good in it.

GQ_send on Thu, 04/05/2007 - 11:54am

I'm not a fan of the long dresses. I think the short ones are a lot more fun. The long ones just seem too formal for me. Plus, I'm tall, so I feel like the long dresses just make me look like a giant.

CGW on Thu, 04/05/2007 - 12:01pm

This is bad news for petite women... I'm 5'2" and used to wear skirts this long. I was 25 lbs underweight at the time and still needed to use 6" platform heels to avoid looking wide and stumpy with those skirts. It looked dramatic and elegant with the giant shoes, but it was awful trying to navigate the crowded staircases and irregular hills of Tokyo with such high heels and my skirt sweeping the ground and getting stepped on. Don't know what I was thinking. Nowadays I stick to miniskirts and jeans. (LOL)

inertia on Thu, 04/05/2007 - 12:05pm

The Twinkle dress is cute but SUUUPER long! I don't understand how anyone, but supermodles, can wear that. My friend is carrying that exact dress in her boutique.

I've been loving Maxi dresses for awhile now. Last summer when I was in Spain I was way into wearing them and I wore a vintage Egyptian style one to my 25th birthday party. I'm hoping to add a few more to my collection this season.

partysugar on Thu, 04/05/2007 - 1:00pm

I love these dresses!! They make me look very tall...

I love this look... I am 5ft 11ins so this is perfect for me. I have 2 already

JK Boogie on Thu, 04/05/2007 - 1:02pm

I like'em

chancleta on Thu, 04/05/2007 - 2:01pm

I'm short so these dresses would swallow me.

Wicked on Thu, 04/05/2007 - 2:27pm

Too short for this, I'd look like I was walking around in a tent. But it doesn't bother me really, I don't like the look of them very much anyways!

kayleigh83 on Thu, 04/05/2007 - 3:48pm

Long, full dresses are super hard on most people. They can make even the thinnest person appear huge.

Zoey13 on Thu, 04/05/2007 - 3:49pm

Wish I could pull that first one off, but alas, between kids and mom's genes, I'm too short and fluffy. Nice to not have to see every inch of skin between bra and panty though!

tihea on Thu, 04/05/2007 - 4:22pm

Hear hear, Jamie Ro and Inertia! The fashion industry doesn't support us. Pants are always way too long, and long skirts make us look even smaller. Spring is the only time of year you can FIND short dresses; time to take advantage.

Karla Sugar on Thu, 04/05/2007 - 5:24pm

Haha Karla! I really don't mind being short, I just wish I was one of those people who could wear anything, but I just can't Sad And yeah, pants are way too long, but the tailor at Nordstrom knows me by name, and like my 5'11" roomie says--you can take length off a pair of jeans, but you can't put more on!

Jamee Ro on Thu, 04/05/2007 - 6:31pm

I tried on one of these dresses a while back, and I had to laugh at my reflection. It looked like I was wearing a nightgown pretending it was an evening gown. I'm six foot, but I just don't get the look. I prefer showing off my legs in minis.

THE TWINKLE ONE IS HORRIBLE - DOES IT COME WITH A JUG OF WATER TO CARRY ON YOUR HEAD?
THE INC ONE ISNT BAD
DONT LIKE THE LONG DRESSES - I FEEL LIKE YOU HAVE TO BE OVER 6 FEET AND VERY THIN

mom2 on Fri, 04/06/2007 - 6:42am

I'm 5'1" and all I do is have them hemmed and everything still looks great! I'm hoping to get a few more this early spring! I love them and it's so simple/chic.

JKe895 on Thu, 04/12/2007 - 6:03am

The first one is just awful but the other two look fab!

kd0024 on Sat, 04/14/2007 - 1:59pm

I am completely obsessed with the Twinkle dress. Seeing it in person solidified it for me. I think the color is amazing, and the cut and fabric are absolutely beautiful. Now, if I only I could grow a few inches, and up my salary by a few figures! Ouch!

tuffghost on Mon, 05/07/2007 - 10:45am

I love the Twinkle dress too. I like the idea of the maxidress but seems as though you really have to search to find the right fit.

Punkingirl on Sat, 06/09/2007 - 4:07pm

I had no idea that I was on the 'cutting edge' of a trend when I wore a "Maxi dress" in Las Vegas last month!

I'm 5'1, and the dress I bought came just to the top of my feet in heels. The empire waist (not a fan of) kind of made me look wide because I have a wide rib cage, but otherwise, it looked great!
I'm 115 lbs, so even though the dress does make my hips and ass look a little wide, my thin face and arms revealed the 'real me'.
I got the most complements on that dress!

FabSugar Says:

Ok so this first model in a serious maxi dress looks like a tree, but that is the effect the longest dress of all can help one achieve. I was actually just on a hunt for a maxi dress and ended up scoring an awesome black silk Corey Lynn Calter one. I wore it to Fashion Week Live last month. I gotta tell ya, I stood out (in a good way) amongst all the legs and got several compliments. My analysis: maxi dresses are the next 'It' dress. After all, the only way to go after the mini dress is down, way down. I wore mine with some exotic flats because I am tall; if you're on the shorter side, these look retro redone with a solid pair of wood-heeled wedges.
