My sister has the country kitchen theme going on in her house. From rooster cookie jars to the curtains and the red gingham chair pads. I

I love french country to include roosters but not this 'country' stuff. I think that set looks like a set designer trying too hard and resulting in being stereotypical and out-of-touch.

totally agree Mesayme-- I love french country with classic rooster accents but just a touch.

I don't like this type of decorating style at all. It's just not for me!

My husband's grandparents built our home. We bought it after his grandmother passed away. We've steered away from extreme country decor that his grandmother loved, but left some of the little country touches. Some of our kitchen tiles have barnyard animals and the wooden valances over our windows have hearts carved in them. I think it's cool to have little reminders of them.

I married a widower whose 1st wife decorated in "Country Decor". The King Size bed had a hand-made Amish Country quilt which actually made me shutter. I certainly can appreciate the craftsmanship but truly hate the look.
It's now in the closet of the guestroom. Hopefully, to be sold at a consignment shop where someone who enjoys the style will be thrilled to make such a "find".
I have been able to remove the barn painting from the living room.
Now,if I could just get rid of the chair-and-a-half coverd in country print.

If you watch Samantha Who?, you may have noticed that Regina Newly, Samantha's mother, is all about the country style décor. Blue gingham? Check! (Har har.) Handmade quilt? Check! Roosters? Check! Check! Check! I've never been one for décor themes, regardless of the inspiration behind it. And, I am a little turned off by homes with a country style that are not actually in the country. I think if you live on a farm, or in a rural area at least, it's acceptable. I can't say I'll be getting the look of Mrs. Newly's home in my own, unless maybe we're talking about a set of farmyard place mats. Samantha's pad, on the other hand, I'd willingly move right into. Enough about me, I want to know what you all think of this countryside style. Do you like it? Do you have any pastoral accessories in your home? Do you like theme decorating in general?
