ha. I doubt I will be bringing this look back to my closet, but I definatly rocked them in the 90s. I had like 5 pairs, but my favorite pair were red sponge painted with blue fish on them. They were so rad.

UGH. can we go five minutes without an ugly shoe "trend" Uggs, Crocs, now these again?

Maybe if I were still in gradeschool. But as a young woman all I can say is UGH.

    moonlight spice on Wed, 12/17/2008 - 3:33pm

What a coincidence! Two weeks ago I bought myself some Docs thinking I was flying in the face of current trends. Oh well, I still love 'em to death.

    misskacie on Wed, 12/17/2008 - 3:34pm

Omg. Its so funny your talking about this. for almost a year this has been my shoe of obsession.

i don't think i will be wearing a pair of those anytime soon....or later

    nourhayaty on Wed, 12/17/2008 - 4:27pm

    Never.

    Sarahab145 on Wed, 12/17/2008 - 4:45pm

If I never tossed them, I'd so rock the ones I owned in HS. I LOOOOOOVE docs

    ckeller825 on Wed, 12/17/2008 - 4:49pm

i loooove docs, just not the ugly neon, patent, weird ones.

    eyesthatlie on Wed, 12/17/2008 - 5:17pm

    i actually think they're cute!

    ferret on Wed, 12/17/2008 - 5:30pm

    Barf!

    laura220 on Wed, 12/17/2008 - 5:46pm

i would totally buy them for my daughter but i can't see myself wearing doc martens again. I had them in high school and i can't see myself wearing them again!

    marshawjs on Wed, 12/17/2008 - 5:52pm

I wanted a pair back in the early 90's. I was in my early teens and my mom wouldn't buy me a pair. Now that I'm in my twenties I think I'll buy myself a pair.

    RoyalBlueMoss on Wed, 12/17/2008 - 5:58pm

    Docs never went out

    LikeThoseShoes on Wed, 12/17/2008 - 7:48pm

and they never will. just like chucks never went out

    LikeThoseShoes on Wed, 12/17/2008 - 7:52pm

Being that I seem to be one of the only tomboyish girls here (but I respect you girly girls) Smiling i am super excited that this a trend that I will actually consider wearing, and get to look cool without the ruffles. Was that coherent? Sorry I have finals this week so I don't think further explanation is needed.

    Cwinche on Wed, 12/17/2008 - 8:20pm

I bought the mary-jane docs. Loved them in 1995, but never, never again.

If you're going to buy them, please don't choose the neon.

    lizzylu49 on Wed, 12/17/2008 - 9:06pm

i could see myself buying these if they weren't over a hundred dollars. i can think of plenty of funky outfits to rock them with.

    rmur on Wed, 12/17/2008 - 9:06pm

I had the coolest croc Docs the first time around that I got in Paris. Now I'm into a more feminine shoe, so I'll probably pass this time around.

    wren on Wed, 12/17/2008 - 10:51pm

When did they ever go out? I never got the memo. I've been wearing mine since the 90s. I definitely wear them a lot more than all my other shoes. They've been just about all over the world by now. They're a classic looking brown, so they go with most things. In my tomboyish days I wore them with jeans and cargo pants; now that I have a girlier aesthetic, I pair them with warm tights and skirts or dresses. I thought it might be weird to wear them with girlier stuff before I tried it, but it makes for a surprisingly good look. Especially now that they are getting this really awesome worn-in old shoe look.

I've heard somewhere that really good shoes mold to your feet, this is what happened with these shoes.

I only break out the stiletto heels for when I don't have to actually walk, and that's pretty much almost never.

And no, the docs have not fallen apart yet. The stitches around the sole are starting to fray, but so far no damage that compromises their structural integrity, which is more than I can say for the stiletto heels that started to wear away at the heel after only ever being worn twice.

Maybe I'll wait to get some bargains when the craze is over for everyone else. I'll need to be ready with a replacement when these ones fall apart some day, though it's not looking like it'll be any time soon. I wonder if they still make 'em the way they did in the 90s, though. So many brands that used to be good have gone downhill in craftsmanship in recent years (*cough* outsourced manufacturing *cough*).

    looseseal on Thu, 12/18/2008 - 3:00am

No thanks, they are not for me. Although I do kind of like the neon hot pink ones.

    Style Bandit on Thu, 12/18/2008 - 5:39am

I did not have these ever. And I never will.

    fleurfairy on Thu, 12/18/2008 - 6:44am

I still have all my old pairs from the 80's and 90's, the newer ones for some reason? just dont "feel" the same.

    CaterpillarGirl on Thu, 12/18/2008 - 7:17am

"Docs never went out." Agreed. Combat boots are always awesome, especially on girls.

I'm currently making myself a pair of custom combat boots, though, so I won't be buying a new pair of the Docs.

    ranksubjugation on Thu, 12/18/2008 - 7:17am

I looooooooved mine back in the day and the teal are cute...not sure I would wear them now...

    aimeeb on Thu, 12/18/2008 - 8:32am

    Awww!! Nostalgia attack!

I used to wear mine with this camo tank dress I made and green fishnets. LOVED them!! But I had a off brand and they fell apart on me... Sad Ah, to be 15 again...

As much as I'd love to rock this trend again, I don't know I would. If I did, it could only be on the weekends... I work in a pretty conservative environment and combat boots probably wouldn't fly...

    fcseamstress on Thu, 12/18/2008 - 8:33am

Oh, and even though I probably won't wear this trend again, I'd much rather see girls in these than crocs or uggs!

    fcseamstress on Thu, 12/18/2008 - 8:39am

Yup! Just like Vanessa on Gossip Girl! http://fashionsavedmylife.com/2008/12/16/jessica-szohr-is-way-cooler-tha...

I agree with #12, though: I think bright patent Docs would be cutest on a little girl.

Style Me Pretty on Thu, 12/18/2008 - 9:08am

Ugh, NO. I was in high school during the whole grunge-era and lived through it once...my Doc Martens are buried in the back of my bedroom closet at my parents' house and there they will stay!

    emalove on Thu, 12/18/2008 - 1:51pm

I passed mine on to my daughter...I might have to get 'em back!!

    tkoblondee on Thu, 12/18/2008 - 2:13pm

I remember my daughter just had to have them and we ran all over London finding just the right pair.

    mommie on Thu, 12/18/2008 - 4:05pm

I've still got my forest green DOCs that I bought in 10th grade. I was just thinking maybe I should give them to charity since I haven't worn them in years. I also still have brown Doc oxfords and I think I might have some of those iconic brown Doc sandals somewhere. I wore tons of Docs in high school because back then you couldn't find size 11 shoes for your life; I had to wear men's. Docs were great for that.

    kitaloclef on Thu, 12/18/2008 - 4:14pm

I recently got myself a knee high pair (~6 months ago?)
I luuurve them, because they're waterproof and so damn comfortable!

    foxfairy on Thu, 12/18/2008 - 6:20pm

i love them lol but only the classic black ones. not into the neon but i can see why someone would like it. i tend to gravitate towards black and other dark colors so the neon is not for me. i'm in college now and never got to do the grunge thing in high school (went to all girls school in nyc so i was pretty prepped-out) so i'm not tired of doc's

    breakbrooklyn on Thu, 12/18/2008 - 9:00pm

The OLD Doc's were rad back in the day. I'm a fan of styles re-emerging because they re-emerge for a reason!

However, what I'm not a fan of is great companies like this (e.g. UGG and Lululemon) that once had a strong product move their manufacturing into places like China and Thailand. EVERYTHING but the cost declines when a company does that: the quality, the ethics, the leather and the treatment of their employees and the animals from where the materials come from.

Can't pull the wool over my eyes Doc!

For those of you who do care, do a bit of reading on the manufacturing of Docs (and others) and see what you come up with. Might find yourself unable to support such a poorly made boot.

It's official: Doc Martens are back in style, and from the looks of things, it's only going to get bigger. The iconic '90s shoe — you know you had a pair — has resurfaced with new styles and designer collaborations. Last year, the brand was overwhelmingly successful with its kimono-print collaboration with Yohji Yamamoto. Now, the company announced a special capsule collection with Raf Simons. Even the stylish Johnny Depp reportedly ordered Doc Martens as party favors for his daughter’s birthday party earlier this year. Check out their bright Spring offerings below. Wicked. Curious minds want to know, will you be dusting off your Docs anytime soon?
