Admiral Toot!!!! I LOVE LOVE LOVE the weird names! So awesome! I thought B-Bop was a weird one but now I see it's no where near as awesome as some of those!

Funny, I have/had dogs named Max and Lucy. My husband's family has dog named Bailey and my coworker's dog is named Sophie. Sheesh!

    dm8bri on Thu, 01/08/2009 - 2:24pm

Wow and I thought celebrities came up with some weird names for their kids, sheesh ha-ha.

According to the list I had my names reversed. I had a cat named Molly and a dog named Charlie.

    bchicgrl on Thu, 01/08/2009 - 2:41pm

Yeah my Chloe's name is the #2 cat name!

It may not be unique but she is.

I noticed none of the other cats in our family are on the common names list - No Daphne, Miranda, Athena, Lyra and now Appa.

AS for the dog names - obliviously our dog Nike is unique but I was ouching for an even more unique original whacked out name. She was going to be named either 'Pair of Pants' or 'Can of Soda'. those were going to be her name because my nephews and I thought they were hilarious names for a dog - we imagined going outside a yelling for her "Here PAIR OF PANTS! Come here CAN OF SODA!" I had so much fun when I was a teenager and my German Sheppard was named Tucker.

We'd go outside and he'd start to misbehave and I'd shout at the top of my lungs "TUCKER!" and my neighbors thought I was yelling the F bomb. It was hilarious. Even more funny when Tucker would aggravate my dad and force my dad to chance him down the street.

My giant dad with the loud deep voice would shout, "TUCKER! Come back here you TUCKER!" Only sometimes he'd say 'Tucker' and as the dog made him sweat more and made him angrier and angrier my dog's name was changed to a very very loud F-Bomb. "_UCKER! YOU _UCKER GET BACK HERE!" Parents covered their children's ears, chaos reigned, my brother and I would be rolling on the front lawn laughing our arses off.

Anyway, old dog names when I was really little - Pokey, Bandit, Kipper, and Rico. I named my first cat Ralph cause when she meowed it sounded like she was saying "Ralph".

    wackdoodle on Thu, 01/08/2009 - 3:22pm

My rabbit is called Myosotis Anabaena, Ana for short, that's quite unusual, but then again, most properly bred rabbits have long and weird names. Myosotis is the breeder's mark, Forget-me-not's latin name, and Anabaena is an algae, the breeder is also a microbiologist Eye-wink My other rabbit is called Ludo, I'm really not that inventive.

    Hilarious with Tucker, btw Eye-wink

    silje on Thu, 01/08/2009 - 3:40pm

My fur baby is called Parker, after Dorothy Parker (even though he's a boy). After I named him people asked if he was named after Tony Parker, or Parker, Colorado (the state we live in). Apparently Parker isn't a popular name for dogs... but I've met a few kids who share his name.

    prettywriter on Thu, 01/08/2009 - 3:48pm

I named my first Himalayan girl Peyton, but she was most often known by her nickname, "Weeness." She earned the tag well, as she was a tiny little wisp of only 6 lbs. and some change, and she was on occasion known to be a fiesty peckerhead. Eye-wink

    fuzzles on Thu, 01/08/2009 - 3:57pm

I like to name my animals after things that I really like.. We have Temperance, Skye, Leopold..

I named our 3 new puppies after one of my favorite book series, The Wheel of Time. Perrin, Paet, and Min (Elmindreda).

I named my cat "Ultimo Bob the Kitty Cheese Pants of Doom."

    Or "Ultimo Bob" for short.

    The cat was female.

    albatros on Thu, 01/08/2009 - 9:55pm

Ummm, why are 8 out of 10 names for dogs girl names??

does this mean that 8 out of 10 dogs are female?

does this mean that most male dogs have original names and females have popular names?

statistically speaking, this is a confusing list.

    dogfriend on Thu, 01/08/2009 - 9:59pm

now how is this for weird?? i had a pet named sassperellawhatchawannavonaviche Louisa aka Sassy lou. i thought it was the name of an instrument on "I love Lucy"

    Ynot101 on Thu, 01/08/2009 - 10:05pm

Our chocolate lab was really tiny when we bought her and we called her "Piddler on the Woof". Piddler for various reasons, she peed everywhere and she was a little piddly thing. We have another one named Helen Gurley Brown, she's a chocolate lab, and goes by just Helen. We also call her Helen "Killer"......she thinks she's tough.

    kirstyaz on Thu, 01/08/2009 - 10:08pm

when i was younger my parents let me name our kitten and i choose Goldi-locks...somehow over the years her name changed to Boogee(i have no idea where that came from). Now I have my cat, Piper, and we recently got another cat and couldn't think of a name so we either call her Kitty or LC(came from calling her little kitty all the time before we thought of a name). Lame calling a cat Kitty, but it suits her well!

Granted, there are tons of animals out there that are uninsured, but I can think of creatures with nearly each of these popular names that I either know personally, or that belong to a celebrity pet owner.
