While I'm not arguing she has a great bod, shouldn't she being doing more strength work? If she has time for 2 hrs of yoga every other day, surely she could knock off some push ups now and again. I dunno, I just think you need a well rounded work out schedule, but whatever works...

halfbakedjake on Tue, 01/13/2009 - 4:57am

i'll try to copy her cardio routine..

because i'm not doing yoga

what about her diet?

there's no way she can achieve that kind of bod eating a bag of chips and chocolate bars everyday.. Laughing out loud

almostloli on Tue, 01/13/2009 - 5:50am

yeah but the picture on the US Weekly cover showed her running in the short from like J Crew with a bow-tied belt . . . runners don't run in shorts from J Crew . . they should either have a better pic and/or I'm not convinced . . .

cmd0610 on Tue, 01/13/2009 - 6:16am

running in shorts* (sorry, bad typing!)

cmd0610 on Tue, 01/13/2009 - 6:16am

Kudos to her!

aimeeb on Tue, 01/13/2009 - 6:32am

nah, not the body I envy..

I had to envy a celebrity body it would be Scarlett Johanson, or Jessica Biel. I will never be as skinny as Jennifer Aniston, but I am curvy like ScarJo.

NdHebert on Tue, 01/13/2009 - 7:15am

I think Jen looks awesome, but I agree with NdHebert, I love Scarlett! It's nice to see us short curvy girls well represented.

EastVillageAmy on Tue, 01/13/2009 - 8:36am

i love her athletic look. but it's a bit weird in how she looks so athletic but isn't. ?

ferret on Tue, 01/13/2009 - 9:18am

I think that certain types of yoga can have asanas that count as strength training. In Ashtanga Primary Series, there are at least 10 sun salutations (5 Surya Namaskar A and 5 B) at the beginning of practice which ends up being 20 planks down to push up pose to upward dog to downward dog in slow controlled movements.

goatimpact on Tue, 01/13/2009 - 10:52am

I don't believe that she only does 20 min of cardio. She's really thin and she didn't used to be this thin when she was a newbie actor. I feel like she must be doing a lot more cardio because I don't find that yoga is enough for me to get/stay fit..

vicki_rut on Tue, 01/13/2009 - 11:00am

I read that US article and thought it was pretty sickening, but it can't be denied that she's got a great body.

Jude C on Tue, 01/13/2009 - 11:59am

I'm just wondering why she looks so dark in the picture.

myystque on Tue, 01/13/2009 - 12:12pm

i believe that "darkness" is called a tan. 2 hours of yoga is my dream. though i'll settle for 1 hour every day rather than 2 hrs every other.

vixen on Tue, 01/13/2009 - 12:26pm

Goatimpact - you're right. Many types of yoga including Ashtanga and Vinyasa involve doing poses that count as strength training. Doing yoga has definitely made my muscles stronger and more defined. It's all those Sun Salutations and vinyasas!

FitSugar on Tue, 01/13/2009 - 12:31pm

i don't think she only does the 20 mins. of running for her cardio. It says she runs 20 mins. after her yoga session, but i bet she runs on days she doesn't do yoga as well

esweet on Tue, 01/13/2009 - 12:43pm

I think that running every morning, and doing 2 hours of yoga every other day is pretty athletic. It sounds like the 20 minutes of cardio post-yoga is somewhat of a cool-down for her muscles, not her primary cardio. In yoga you are lifting yourself and holding positions, that would seem to be decent strength training to me...

snowbunny11 on Tue, 01/13/2009 - 12:44pm

I do both Hatha and Kundalini yoga. Kundalini yoga includes many, many exercises that count as strenght training. My muscles are a lot stronger than before I started practising.

Jennifer has a great body, and so does Scarlett - they just have different body types.

pequeña on Tue, 01/13/2009 - 12:52pm

I should do more yoga. I'm definitely a cardio-junkie, but I don't do nearly enough yoga. I'd have to start off slowly though...2 hours every other day seems like a lot to me.

Spectra on Tue, 01/13/2009 - 1:31pm

She was in Self magazine with her trainer and this is the workout they said she does:
http://www.self.com/fitness/workouts/2006/11/jennifer-anistons-workout-r...

Plus I've read many places that she's very conscious of what she eats, so I think that, in addition to the above routine probably gives her that body.

Spectra - I'm also a cardio junkie, but I've decided to commit to at least 2 yoga sessions a week, my hips and posterier muscles are getting too tight lately.

EastVillageAmy on Tue, 01/13/2009 - 2:50pm

Hey all - sorry to say that Jen is a SMOKER! That accounts for the minimal exercise/eating and is also why she stays so thin!

tysieright on Tue, 01/13/2009 - 4:50pm

Oooh, I really like seeing her running speed!

AMP on Tue, 01/13/2009 - 5:29pm

cmd0610- the picture was a still from the movie marley and me. she wasn't actually jogging. lol

brielleblonde on Tue, 01/13/2009 - 6:13pm

I Love Jennifer I think she looks like america's sweetheart. I am a yoga instructor and also got to see jennifer at the premiere of Marley and Me in LA. I would love to meet her in person she seems really great. I think her style is classic and sheek. I would love to have the necklaces she wore in Marley & Me. I love jennifer meyers pieces.

granger on Tue, 01/13/2009 - 7:09pm

I just don't see how people can criticize her body. 2 hours of yoga every other day plus cardio is NOT minimal. Smoking certainly doesn't account for her muscle tone.

silligirl23 on Wed, 01/14/2009 - 5:57pm

I think she looks great for her age. I'm just starting a yoga routine and I love it. One of my resolutions for the 2009 was to reduce stress and by going to yoga I am definately seeing a difference. I want to do more cardio and strengh training but when running I get so winded easily because i have asthma.

pklotus on Mon, 01/19/2009 - 7:22am

Add 3 sets and 12 reps of neuroticism daily. No thanks. That chick is not one to emulate in any sense.

KimBurnett on Mon, 01/19/2009 - 1:31pm

I just don't have time for 2 hours of yoga every second day. Nor do I have a friend slash yoga teacher who'll come over to my house to train with me, lol

That being said, I do like yoga and pilates, as well as jogging. I'd also be interested to see her average speed per km...

macchiatolove on Tue, 01/20/2009 - 8:52pm

I don't really enjoy yoga, I'm more of a pilates person myself.

FitSugar Says:

Jennifer Aniston turns 40 on Feb. 11, and she's looking better than ever. Recently Us Weekly deemed hers "maybe the most envied body in Hollywood." Indeed, Jennifer is lean, muscular, and does it all by taking care of herself.

According to the story in the magazine's Jan. 19 issue, Jen owes her sexy and sculpted body to "running and yoga and eating well." While filming Marley & Me, she had constant discipline, running every morning at 6 a.m. and following a regimented meal plan so she never overate.

Aniston used to be a total cardio junkie, but when she tried yoga, she was a quick convert. To find out why she loves it so much read more.

When at home, Jennifer loves working with yoga instructor and friend Mandy Ingber in her home gym. They do a two-hour session every other day, moving through basic poses like Tree and Down Dog. Having a consistent yoga practice has really changed her body, lengthening her limbs, toning her muscles, and improving her posture. She says, "I've maybe grown half an inch from aligning my spine."

It isn't just the physical benefits that keep calling her back to the mat. Jennifer is all about the spiritual side of yoga too, saying, "You feel like you're having a therapy session." After her sweaty yoga workout, Us Weekly says, she finishes with 20 minutes of cardio on the elliptical or treadmill (she runs 5.7 mph at 1.5 incline).
