shoegal1001 on Mon, 02/23/2009 - 4:36pm

Totally agree that these were 3 of the best looks!

Natalie's was my own personal favorite Smiling

emalove on Mon, 02/23/2009 - 5:12pm

I think I might agree with you for once Fab (ha!)... Part of me still thinks that Natalie Portman's dress is a little prom-ish/not dramatic enough for the Oscars, but hey she still looks good.

shannydoots on Mon, 02/23/2009 - 5:15pm

Oh, and Taraji was definitely my pick for Best Dressed of the night.

shannydoots on Mon, 02/23/2009 - 5:17pm

Me too, I agree.

mommie on Mon, 02/23/2009 - 5:27pm

I voted against Natalie's dress yesterday but it is growing on me. Oy!

luvluvg on Mon, 02/23/2009 - 7:12pm

I concur on your rulings, Fab, though I still think whoever did Natalie's blush needs a smackin'!

Glittersniffer on Mon, 02/23/2009 - 8:08pm

i feel pretty "eh" about natalie portman's dress. it doesn't seem ... formal enough.

rmur on Mon, 02/23/2009 - 8:20pm

Taraji was definitely the best-dressed without a doubt.
Marisa's was beautiful
Out of Kate Winslet and Penelope, I can't decide whose I like best.

Louie on Mon, 02/23/2009 - 9:02pm

And me too - definitely a bit "meh" about Natalie Portman's dress. A bit just okay kinda.

Louie on Mon, 02/23/2009 - 9:03pm

Taraji and Marisa were my top two as well. Just gorgeous!

kscincotta on Mon, 02/23/2009 - 9:09pm

I LOVED Taraji and Marisa's dresses. So beautiful. Natalie's was nice but a bit prom for me. My 3rd choice would be Penelope's. She looked like a princess.

sandy82 on Mon, 02/23/2009 - 9:30pm

OMG how can the Ladies at Pop Sugar forget to add Anne Hathaway who was breathtaking in Armani Prive.

cnyc1a on Mon, 02/23/2009 - 10:33pm

Fab, I think you have completely missed Nicole Kidman in L’Wren Scott. She was gorgeousssssss!

peachesncream on Tue, 02/24/2009 - 12:02am

These were my three favorites of the night too!! Good job!

makiwacky on Tue, 02/24/2009 - 2:40am

as far as over all styling goes...i agree fab. dress, shoes, hair, make up...i thought these 3 were flawless.

redchick152 on Tue, 02/24/2009 - 5:20am

I like Natalie, but I wouldn't have picked her.

Kelliegrl on Tue, 02/24/2009 - 6:34am

I'd like to swap Marissa for Kate but the other two were surely top 3 for me.

aimeeb on Tue, 02/24/2009 - 7:18am

Taraji was definitely the best dressed of the night. I like how interesting and eye-catching Marisa's dress is. As for Natalie... she always looks lovely, but I'm not sure that color is for her.

designerel on Tue, 02/24/2009 - 9:58am

LOVED Taraj's dress and necklace...PERFECTION!
Absolutely BEST DRESSED

Angelina was also perfection

NYC0820 on Tue, 02/24/2009 - 12:22pm

Taraji P Henson and Alicia Keys were the best dressed last night for sure. Taraji looked perfect from head to toe.

aquariuspatsfan on Tue, 02/24/2009 - 3:02pm

I would have swapped Natalie for Freida Pinto. I LOVED the blue dress

bleached on Tue, 02/24/2009 - 8:46pm

taraji was my favorite from the get-go, she just looked so beautiful. i wouldn't have put marisa tomei at 3rd though, i hated how the bodice looked, it was a gorgeous dress but penelope cruz took 3rd for me.

sleekeasy on Tue, 02/24/2009 - 11:58pm

My favorite was Penelope Cruz. I loved her dress. I knew it had to be vintage since it was so unique. And the best part: she looked incredibly happy, radiant, and beautiful in it.

FabSugar Says:

What I enjoyed about this year's Oscars was the chance for some red carpet newbies to shine.

Though I was super disappointed red carpet superstars Cate, Reese, and Nicole were either absent or didn't walk the red carpet, it was nice seeing new enthusiastic faces. Especially Benjamin Button nominee Taraji Henson. Every time the camera chose her, she was smiling and bright. Her buttercream Roberto Cavalli confection was absolutely delectable, I wanted to eat it up. The tiered cascading gown also had the perfect size fishtail, not too overwhelming, but still dramatic. I'm sure you also noticed her vintage necklace — 19th-century Fred Leighton. She gave a nod to the red carpet (and added a punch of color) with her burgundy silk Mary Norton clutch.

To see my other two favorites, read more.

I didn't realize how much I missed Natalie on the red carpet until last night when she floated by in her orchid pink Rodarte. I started to get bored with all the neutral hued gowns, so Natalie held my attention. The asymmetrical ruched bodice and Swarovski crystal detailing are sweet, subtle touches. She wore simple Kwiat vintage diamonds — vintage studs, a large deco cuff, and stackable rings — all the better to let her lovely hued dress and gorgeous face shine. Her vampy nails added some spice to her sweet ensemble.

Both of the ladies from The Wrestler looked stellar last night; Evan Rachel Wood and Tomei both made our Best Dressed poll. Marisa's dove gray Versace got better and better by the minute. And did I mention she worked it? She had one of the most precise trains and she vogued like crazy; Tomei's got the red carpet thing down. The spirals and folds on the skirt fanned out to create such an awesome effect. Her totally toned arms wore a cool Van Cleef & Arpels diamond and sapphire bracelet while she also showed off a diamond ring and lapis lazuli and diamond earrings.
