Oooh, I deliberately went with the answers that I thought were wrong but treated them as trick questions. Oh dear. Now I'm off to enjoy my three whole-wheat pancakes.

Well I never do brunch, ever, but this is good to know! I got 2/3...thought a turkey sausage patty would have less than the veggie one.

Even if the yogurt+granola+fruit has more calories, the omelet could be loaded with saturated fat and cholesterol. Fewer calories does not always mean healthier.

a belgian waffle is only 220 calories? aren't those huge, like a size of a plate almost?

switchmeup on Sat, 05/02/2009 - 9:52am

fewer calories don't mean healthier too sometimes Smiling

nevaeh1978 on Sat, 05/02/2009 - 9:57am

Switchmeup- Belgium waffles are usually square, with super deep "pockets". The ones I've had are a little bit larger than the size of my palm.

I love Breakfast and Brunch food. This was a really great quiz. Thanks!

UrbanBohemian on Sat, 05/02/2009 - 10:24am

ONE whole wheat pancake has 276 calories? really? When I first read this I thought that was the count for all three!

LaPetiteFoodie on Sat, 05/02/2009 - 11:59am

These are kind of subjective. Smiling The granola that I eat is not over 200 calories for a serving, so I think it would end up less calories than an omelette. Btw, I thought eggs were about 75 cals each? Which would make a 3 egg omelette 225 calories before you add the cheese.

I think we could talk more about brunch items, or taking favorite brunch foods and incorporating them into a healthy lifestyle

UrbanBohemian on Sat, 05/02/2009 - 3:40pm

I hate eggs. But I know they have a lot of cholesterol and fat, so the comparison with the yogurt and granola isn't really fair. At least the yogurt concoction has more complex carbs and will probably keep you full longer than the cheese omlette.

Also, how many eggs are we using, and are we just using egg whites? You can cut a lot of calories and cholesterol just by cutting the yolk!

Exactly! If my daddy was looking at those two as options, I'd encourage him to get the yogurt. Fewer calories absolutely does not mean healthier.
And Fit, it'd take about 3/4 of a cup for me to have 220 calories of (full fat, completely delicious) granola in my yogurt. I just ran to the kitchen to double check that. Once I had 3/4 of a cup of granola and a quarter cup of blueberries, I'd have more fillings than yogurt, and who actually eats like that?

That's the problems with the first question, Fit. Implying that a cheesy omlette is healthier than low fat yogurt with granola and fruit is ridiculous.

3 eggs for 163 calories? No way.

darc5204 on Sun, 05/03/2009 - 12:16pm

I'm happy my veggie sausage wins, at least. I'll definitely have to look more into Belgian waffles vs whole wheat pancakes.

As an aside, I love the idea of getting together with my family once a week at a brunch.

I don't think that they did a good job on their calorie counting....at least not according the food labels in MY kitchen!

MrsRachel on Mon, 05/04/2009 - 7:12am

Where did these figures come from? I checked several different sources and 1 large egg has ~75 calories (not 54, which is 163/3).

The waffle thing surprised me Smiling

sunshinepointe on Mon, 05/04/2009 - 10:00am

I would probably still go for the omelet and not the yogurt because it would have more filling protein than the yogurt mix (plus much much less sugar). Personally I just tend to find it more satisfying.
Then again I could never eat a whole 3 egg omelet, just too much food I think.
My only issue with the omelet is where the heck do you find a place that only gives you 1oz of cheese in there (usually have big old gobs of it). Same with yogurt. Most brunch places don't give you natural healthy granola with your yogurt and berries, they give you the really sugar-packed stuff.

Smacks83 on Mon, 05/04/2009 - 1:05pm

I have to study on my calorie counting you think your getting the healthiest,NOT!

mocha7 on Thu, 05/07/2009 - 7:27pm

I have only one right.

When the weekend comes, my family loves to get together and make all the tasty brunch items we don't have time for during the week. In case you were wondering how they compare calorie-wise, take this fun little quiz.
