IP addresses are generally meant to stay private, but there are ways of getting general info on them. A roundabout way I can think of is for one of the kids to start a blog ("Nate's Noodle"?) where they post tips. If Gossip Girl links or comments or reads it, a service like StatCounter or Google Analytics can indicate where certain readers are, down to the names of businesses where the servers are.
