Love Jessica Biel! I think she has the best body in Hollywood and it's nice to know how hard she works to stay fit.
Not sure if I'll buy the slide though

I wouldn't want to pay 30 bucks for her piece of self-promotion, either, but whenever I want to get a work-out like that in, I grab a few hand towels at the gym and head into the empty main studio when they're not teaching classes. I'm guessing it pretty much does the same thing!

i saw a youtube video of valerie and her valslide - immediatley thought that a rag would work just as well. All that sliding is tough though!

So I basically do those same moves but I dont have a Valslide and use a weighted bar when I do them. Does not picking your foot up like I do and sliding it like that instead work that area better?

kclulu on Wed, 07/01/2009 - 8:04am

kclulu - sliding it instead of picking your foot up just works the muscle in a different range of motion, it doesn't necessarily work it better but targets it the whole way through instead of in specific points like a regular lunge would. one isn't necessarily better than the other, it just works differently.

Kclulu,

Try using paper plates or something similar.

There are also other products similar to the valslide that have been out for years and probably are cheaper.

Good points laellavita and chameleon7. Even though I am the first person to tell people they should change up their routine so muscles dont get stagnant and used to the same thing, I sometimes lose site of that when I try to do whatever the most difficult exercise is. This would be good to try at home since I have hardwood floors and socks;)

I use paper plates instead of a "Valslide" and they work pretty well, actually. They're definitely cheaper, that's for sure.

There is a child's toy on the market called Carpet Skates (or fun slides) that look just like the valslide. We got the skates for my son for christmas - we all love them!

Is there anything on FitSugar for a newbie workout? Like, if I never stepped foot in a gym before? I know that there is a feature for gym equipment explained but Valerie here makes a good point, "Strength train three days a week, focusing on the big muscles (legs, chest, back, and arms)."

I know Fit creates printable workouts...is there a basic workout plan, using basic machines? I would love to find out.

Thanks for the comments folks, I'll start the paper plate thing tomorrow!

FitSugar Says:

There's no hiding bellies or behinds when all you're wearing is a bikini. Shape recruited celebrity trainer Valerie Waters for a few tips on getting ready to bare it all — who better than a woman who has worked with clients like Jennifer Garner and Jessica Biel?

Valerie insists that eating clean (and eating breakfast) are big parts of the equation for achieving the body you want, and making your workouts count is the other factor in getting your figure bikini-ready. Her plan: Strength train three days a week, focusing on the big muscles (legs, chest, back, and arms). Increase the amount of fat you burn by doing interval training the other three days.

To learn what Valerie recommends for getting a shapely booty like Jessica's, read more.

Valerie plugged her product when she told Shape, "The Valslide is the secret weapon for a lot of celebrities because it will change your butt faster than anything you've seen. It's like using a slide board except that's it's smaller." She added, "You can do so much to work your butt with no equipment: squats, lunges, step-ups." If you're not in the market for her $30 fitness tool, print out my nine-exercise glutes and hamstrings workout. Take it to the gym with you, and start working that booty.
