5-7 hour workouts? If I didn't have a full time job, bills, and a husband, I'm sure I could devote tons of money and time to working out all day so that I too would be as fit as she is.

That is just not realistic in the least for the rest of us. But I can see for her, it probably seems reasonable since she makes a living based on her appearance.

Yogaforlife on Thu, 08/06/2009 - 5:54am

What makes working out 5 to 7 hours a day any more healthy than a person who starves themselves? So ridiculous. A work out that consists of most of your day is unhealthy and can lead to very problematic and obsessive habits.

So Jessica eats half portions of food and works out several hours a day? That's healthy? I think not!

LoveButtons on Thu, 08/06/2009 - 6:31am

5-7 hours sounds more unhealthy to me than anything!

tlsgirl on Thu, 08/06/2009 - 6:45am

I think she's just saying she eats half of a restaurant portion, which is reasonable.

Modus Vivendi on Thu, 08/06/2009 - 7:28am

5-7 hours isn't neccesarily unhealthy if you do it once or maybe twice a month, it didn't sound like she does this on a daily basis. It sounds like a challenge to me. If anyone has ever done an endurance event, training for 5-7 hours is not unheard of. Ultra marathons can be 100 miles, which will take considerably longer than 5-7 hours and those individuals are not typically thought of as unhealthy but as athletes. Same can be said with certain triathalons. You can be an athlete and work out like an athlete but just not be a professional one. I know someone people don't understand that but if you love doing it and you love a challenge, why not?

kclulu on Thu, 08/06/2009 - 7:39am

I wish I could afford to have a personal trainer every time I worked out! Somedays, I really need their motivation!

bonniebonnie on Thu, 08/06/2009 - 8:11am

Obviously if someone is training for something specific like a marathon or triathalon then that's understandable. I think we all know Jessica Biel is not training for a specific event and is not an athlete. Yes she's in very good shape but over-exercising is as serious as an eating disorder, and is considered one. It's just ridiculous when stars say they are healthy and aren't conforming to Hollywood standards- it's b.s they all have the same pressures and some deal with it better than others but it's there.

LoveButtons on Thu, 08/06/2009 - 8:16am

there is no way that she can work 5 - 7 hours without proper nutritional fuel. this trainer would be remiss and likely out of business if they had starving people come in and work out for that long. I also completely believe that when she goes to restaurants, she edits the portions for herself (as she should, since restaurant portions are at least twice as much as you should be eating at once). that said, this type of program is for someone whose job is to be fit and beautiful. someday when I'm an international superstar, I may work out five hours a day also Smiling

mamasitamalita on Thu, 08/06/2009 - 8:17am

to be fair, i'm sure these 5-7 hour workouts are OCCASIONAL occurrences, not daily. AND her quote about food was taken out of context and was not spoken in the same conversation as these 5-7 hour workouts.....

xtinabeena on Thu, 08/06/2009 - 8:19am

and she JUST CAN'T FIGURE OUT WHY she just gets offered roles where she's in a bikini?

poptart princess on Thu, 08/06/2009 - 8:55am

she's playing Sarah Brown in Guys & Dolls currently. NOT a bikini.

mamasitamalita on Thu, 08/06/2009 - 9:22am

She's a horrid actress. The reviews were embarrassing, she has no business being on Broadway. Let her just continue working out 100 hours a day looking depressed and angry in every picture taken of her. Much better career for her.

LoveButtons on Thu, 08/06/2009 - 9:41am

I agree with those who said that she probably does not work out 5-7 hours a day and cut all of her meals in half.

I rather like her. She does not seek attention and fame (like Paris, Kim, and others), she keeps to herself, I liked a few of her movies, and I admire her dedication to fitness. She doesn't bother me at all. There are far worse celebs out there.

pookie poo on Thu, 08/06/2009 - 10:05am

My comments referring to training for events was meant to point out that we don't consider those individuals as being unhealthy, so you can't just assume that if someone exercises for that long they must be unhealthy. I didn't think this was something she did daily or even every other day but a once in awhile thing which I don't feel is unhealthy.

kclulu on Thu, 08/06/2009 - 10:28am

If you would read the article properly you would see that he is the trainer who is known for his 5-7 hours work outs, which she has done, WHILE preparing for a role.
Her current work out is a boot camp work out, which they did not state as being 5-7 hours!

Anonymous on Thu, 08/06/2009 - 11:30am

It's not that serious people. I feel that working out 5-7 hours in one day is overdoing it. I also don't think eating half portions of food while exerting yourself in such a way is healthy either. We all have different opinions.

LoveButtons on Thu, 08/06/2009 - 11:44am

Did we read the same article? Her workout was a *1* hour bootcamp. L.I.F.E. specializes in creating 5-7 hours workouts but she stopped after 60 minutes.

"After an hour-long session at Live-In Fitness Enterprise (L.I.F.E.) in Marina Del Rey, CA, the actress said that the workout "was tough, and I’ll definitely be back for more. But I’m tired!" ... Even though when preparing for a role Jessica has clocked some five-plus hours of exercise in a day, her boot-camp-style workout left her breathless."

marisa99 on Thu, 08/06/2009 - 12:40pm

From what I read, it sounds like Jessica has done 5 hour a day workouts in the past while preparing for a role, but that the 1 hour bootcamp workout was a lot tougher. I'm guessing her 5 hour workouts weren't as intense. It's not that unheard of to spend 5 hours a day working out IF you know what you're doing and you're properly fueling up. She's not underweight or anything, so she's probably eating a pretty normal amount of calories. Like others have said, I don't think she routinely works out for 5-7 hours a day; it's probably something she does when she has a big role coming up.

Spectra on Thu, 08/06/2009 - 12:56pm

somehow, I doubt JBiel is eating at the cheesecake factory or chili's with their huge portions. the fancier the restaurant it seems, the smaller the portions. so why does she need to cut that in half?

Anonymous on Thu, 08/06/2009 - 1:42pm

Fit maybe you should weigh-in here. I am under the impression that the boot camp customizes 5 to 7 different 1 hour works out for a person. Not that it customizes 5-7 hour workouts. And that her workout there was 1 hour. And they only mention of a longer workout was that she has been known to in the past workout 5 hours a day for a role.

SillyGirl on Thu, 08/06/2009 - 4:10pm

SillyGirl--I'll clarify things for you: "five- to seven-hour workouts" means the workouts are five to seven hours long. If there were no hyphen, it would mean they customized five to seven hour workouts. It did also say she HAS done 5 hours at the gym in one day for movie roles...I don't think she does that regularly though.

Spectra on Thu, 08/06/2009 - 5:45pm

OMG 5-to-7 hours????

cg130 on Thu, 08/06/2009 - 7:00pm

Athletes regularly train for 5 - 7 hours...I guess it's not completely unrealistic. She is known for being super-athletic

mks0880 on Sat, 08/08/2009 - 7:01am

ballerinas dance 5-7 hours A DAY.
So yeah it's not that unhealthy, you can still go back to your house, eat small proportions and stay fit and strong.

Anonymous on Tue, 08/11/2009 - 3:41pm

I know I'm WAY late on this. But the article said 5 hours + "When preparing for a role". So it's like going to work for her.

Camarogirl67 on Thu, 09/24/2009 - 1:21pm

I spent 3 months at L.I.F.E. last year. They feed you allot of food. All your work-outs are tailored to your output of movement and your food is measured based on your workouts, your weight, how much weight you want to lose, etc. You get the water dunk testing, etc. The camp is mostly for very overweight people. The owner, Eric is a narcissist and a fake. Even though his web-site and this picture show him with Jessica, he was never around. He came in once a week to give a boring and stupid speech. He really doesn't know what he is talking about. To his credit, the place is run by dynamic people and great trainers, but Eric is a jerk. Just to give you one situation. On a Saturday work out at the beach, I watched him yell at a young man from New Mexico. He was about 300 pounds and had a positive personality when he came. Eric slammed him for a good half hour, while forgetting about the rest of us. From then on, that poor kid was miserable. I also know that he, or the trainers, will break into the clients rooms and search for contraband (food.) I'm sure Jessica was lured there for some reason and now Eric is trying to use her celebrity for all it's worth.

FitSugar Says:

Voted fittest female celeb by FitSugar readers two years in a row, we know Jessica Biel embraces a challenging workout. Jess recently shared the details of her new boot camp with Life and Style, and it sounds tough. After an hour-long session at Live-In Fitness Enterprise (L.I.F.E.) in Marina Del Rey, CA, the actress said that the workout "was tough, and I’ll definitely be back for more. But I’m tired!"

L.I.F.E. specializes in creating personalized five- to seven-hour workouts. Even though when preparing for a role Jessica has clocked some five-plus hours of exercise in a day, her boot-camp-style workout left her breathless. The session included leg lifts, medicine-ball training, hand-bike work, and kettlebell lifts. Trainer and gym owner Eric Viskovicz is known for working his clients hard. He explained his style like this: "I put my clients through the gantlet — it’s what I’d put a professional athlete through." After working Biel hard, he had only compliments for Jess saying, "Compared to the rest of the celebrities, I’d give Jessica an A."

An A-lister both in and out of the gym, Jess's physique comes with a lot of hard work. Her eating habits play a role in her healthy lifestyle too. [break]Learn her food philosophy.[/break]

Jess told the magazine,

"I don’t live with the idea that you can’t allow yourself something. Eat things you like, but eat them in smaller portions. I cut dishes in half as soon as they’re served to me.”

Looks like Jess is a believer in moderation too. Don't deny yourself foods you love. don't skip fancy restaurant meals. Just keep it in check.
