Jared, Lupita, Gwyneth: Announcing the 2014 POPSUGAR Beauty Award Winners!

At the end of the year, we take the time to honor a few standout stars with the POPSUGAR Beauty Awards. But we don't give out these titles based on appearance alone. This year we're honoring a model who helps teen girls embrace body image, a transgender actress who's breaking industry standards, and an Oscar-winning male with luscious locks. Last year, our winners included Solange Knowles, Michelle Williams, and Lily Collins, and back in 2012 you selected Kristen Stewart as the most inspirational star. Keep reading to find out which nine stars are taking home accolades for 2014 in categories like most radiant skin and trendsetter.

Most Radiant Skin

Every time Cate Blanchett walks the red carpet, we are mesmerized by her poreless facade. Of course the young up-and-coming stars have flawless, radiant skin. But at 45 years old, the Oscar-winning actress gives the younger girls a run for their money.

Cate is a long-time devotee (and ambassador) of skin care brand SK-II, and if the products give these types of results, we're sold! We love that Cate's beauty is totally authentic, wrinkles and all. She's spoken out against cosmetic surgery saying, "If you have all that stuff done . . . in the end you just see the work. It doesn't fill me with admiration, it fills me with pity." That's one point for aging naturally and gracefully.

Amal Clooney was continually at the top of celebrity headlines this year, putting her stunning smile on display again and again. Of course, she had plenty of reasons to don a grin thanks to her marriage to George Clooney. As an attorney, she has a more professional and ladylike take on beauty: bold brows, bouncy blowout, and blush pink pout. We're sure her pearly whites, sunny disposition, and legal acumen get her just as much attention in the courtroom as they're garnering on the red carpet.

Red Carpet Winner

What can we say . . . Lupita Nyong'o has killed it on the red carpet this year. From the awards circuit in January to the Fashion Week functions in September, she has never had a beauty look we didn't love. Lupita totally debunks the belief that a bold eye and bright lip can't be worn at once. She also proved that two inches of hair can be as diverse as waist-length locks. The Oscar-winning performer always leaves us wondering: what will she do next?

With her breakout role on Netflix's Orange Is the New Black, Laverne Cox has broken the Hollywood beauty mold this year as a transgender actress. In 2014 she covered Time magazine and has been nominated for several awards. Not only do we think this is the beginning of a fruitful career for Laverne, but she's also changing our society's standard for what it means to be beautiful.

Beauty Icon Award

Gwyneth Paltrow has inspired our hair and makeup choices since the early '90s (remember that crop from Sliding Doors?). For decades she has been able to stay on the radar, not by following every trend, but by sticking to her own timeless style. This year she had multiple projects in the beauty realm. She launched new product collaborations on her lifestyle site, GOOP; she was announced as the spokeswoman for Restorsea; and she opened a chain of blow-dry bars nationwide. Outer beauty and business brains? That's the meaning of the word "icon" in our dictionary.

This year Gwen Stefani was giving us a major '90s flashbacks. The singer released a new single, debuted a nail polish collection with OPI, and starred as a judge on The Voice. Plus, she did it all while rocking our favorite throwback beauty trends. Gwen doesn't go far without her signature bold, red lipstick. When it comes to hair, she's often rocking a retro victory roll or pin curls. Gwen even revived her punk No Doubt ensembles and hairstyles that we thought were bananas (b-a-na-na-s) back in the day like dyed strands and chic knotted updos.

Past Winners: Taylor Swift, Adele

Trendsetter

When Rihanna wears a gray hair, a grill, or blue lipstick on the red carpet, you'll immediately begin to see copy cats on Instagram. But her influence doesn't just span social media; she also took home the CFDA trendsetter award this year. Fashion designers and beauty brands love her because she is able to take runway trends from the catwalk to street style. In 2014 she acted as the Viva Glam spokeswoman for MAC Cosmetics and launched the men's counterpart to her fragrance, Rogue.

Past Winners: Beyoncé Knowles, Nicki Minaj

Model Behavior

Tyra Banks has turned her stint as a runway model into an international business. This year she celebrated cycle 21 of the modeling competition America's Next Top Model and launched her own line of color cosmetics dubbed Tyra. But what deems her the top candidate for our model behavior award is her charitable work with her TZone Foundation. The organization helps build confidence among teenage women and works to build self-esteem at the critical age where most adolescents are dealing with bullies and body image.

OK, we know what you're thinking: Jared Leto is a dude. But the truth is the rock-star-turned-actor has better locks than we do. Over the years he has tried many different looks, from a platinum blond mohawk to cornrows. Yet Jared's ombré waves are our personal favorite (with the man bun coming in as a close second). He has the type of coif that inspires hair envy among men and women alike. His stylist Chase Kusero says the key to getting his look is minimal shampooing, a flat-iron, and straight ends.
