totally disagree with her -- laughing at yourself may diffuse negativity or at least seem like laughter is a happy thing, but instead of laughing or poking fun at imperfections we should be embracing them

mamasitamalita on Thu, 10/15/2009 - 12:42pm

size 26 jeans?

llendril on Thu, 10/15/2009 - 12:58pm

A size 26 jean (think it's the hip or waist measurement?)is about a size 2 jean. Depends on what store you are shopping in. A size 26 in Guess, Bebe, etc. is about a 2 in Express or Gap.

Yogaforlife on Thu, 10/15/2009 - 1:07pm

26=2 or 4 depending on the company.

ojodeazul on Thu, 10/15/2009 - 1:21pm

Mamasita, I think Jenna means laughing "at" imperfections as a means of embracing imperfections. Sure, laughter can be about diffusing a negative or tense situation, but I think it's also a natural thing to do when you have come to know yourself and been through all the ups and downs...it's a release and it's finally coming to acceptance.

I'm not going to nitpick on Jenna's way of summing it up in a fitness article. She is still smarter and nicer than your average Hollywood starlet.

PeachyKeen19 on Thu, 10/15/2009 - 1:35pm

*genuine too.

PeachyKeen19 on Thu, 10/15/2009 - 1:35pm

She is NOT a real size 26, never. I am wearing size zero pants at GAP...and I cant fit in a size 26.( I am a size 27) I love her but she's not tiny...she is just thin.

Anonymous on Thu, 10/15/2009 - 1:41pm

I like her; she seems "real" to me. I like her attitude about laughing at our own imperfections...my sister and I used to do that all the time when we were teenagers. She always said "Can I trade you my tummy for your butt?" and I'd be like, "Sure, I'll take your tummy any day...can I have your boobs, too?" and she'd say "Sure, just as long as I get your arms!" For whatever reason, we are a lot better at finding the good parts about other people's bodies than we are at finding the good parts about ourselves.

Spectra on Thu, 10/15/2009 - 1:45pm

I think she meant laughing at it as a way of not taking yourself too seriously. People obsess about every little thing on their body. It's good to not make such a big deal out of it.

I like that she looks fit but not overly ripped. She looks like she has a pretty healthy attitude toward fitness.

I had no idea she broke her back. How horrible! I guess she's okay now though?

Just read this excerpt from the article where it seems like the size 26 jeans was a fluke. LIke she doesn't wear them all the time? Which is funny because I do this too! When I shop at Banana Republic I'm a size smaller than other places. If only their stuff wasn't so expensive.

Of course, that doesn't mean Jenna wasn't thrilled when she got back down to her pre-accident size 26. "I went shopping with my girlfriends recently, and I fit into my old-size jeans. I'm like, 'Do you like these? I don't care!' They could have been acid-washed and I would've bought them simply because of the size!"

Anonymous on Thu, 10/15/2009 - 2:07pm

I'm glad I saw the video of her doing this shoot because it was clear that her body really does look like that. It's hard to believe what was under all of those drab work clothes!

Anonymous on Thu, 10/15/2009 - 2:13pm

god, even the normal girls are smoking hot.

leslievanhouten on Thu, 10/15/2009 - 2:32pm

she looks great in that picture, but I wonder - as I always do - what she looks like UNphotoshopped.

runningesq on Thu, 10/15/2009 - 6:52pm

I love her.

zeppelinrules on Thu, 10/15/2009 - 8:04pm

i dig her, but what's with shape and the covergirls up to their knees in water?

sundaygreen on Fri, 10/16/2009 - 1:47am

Sundaygreen - I was going to say the exact same thing! They are ALL like that!

Runningesq - I've always wondered the same thing, but a couple months ago when Jada Pinkett Smith was on the cover, they got all defensive in the editorial section and stated that they don't ever photoshop celebrities' bodies other than very minor touch-ups. Their policy is to pick cover celebrities based on if their body looks "good enough" without photoshopping. They showed side by side pictures of the original photo and the final cover, and they actually hadn't changed much, so it made me a believer.

chloe bella on Fri, 10/16/2009 - 3:54am

I read that too Chloe, but the whole time I was reading I kept thinking "thou doth protest too much!" I just didn't buy it.

syako on Fri, 10/16/2009 - 6:22am

I think she's adorable. Cute and she looks healthy, not sickingly thin.

Beaner on Fri, 10/16/2009 - 8:00am

she looks great!! perfectly fit and healthy.

blondie829 on Fri, 10/16/2009 - 9:22am

Wowzah lol. She looks so fit and healthy! She's so pretty. I guess all those remarks on the Office are true, esp. last week during Jim's brothers' toast. lol.

jhilly123 on Fri, 10/16/2009 - 2:54pm

Aren't the European sizes based on waist measurement in inches?

She doesn't seem like a 26 to me, I'm a 25/26 (I can't remember which at this point) and it seems like she's smaller than me...I would think she is a size 0/1...not a 3/4.

zeze on Fri, 10/16/2009 - 11:56pm

she gained 10 whole pounds? why that's the end of the world!

Anonymous on Sat, 10/17/2009 - 6:48am

I freaking adore her. She is adorable!

UFLauren on Mon, 10/19/2009 - 8:02am

She's 5'5"! 10 pounds could be a lot on her.
As for the people saying "it's photoshopped", have you ever seen a fit woman in person? Maybe there are some touchups, but she looks like a normal healthy person to me.

Anonymous on Tue, 10/20/2009 - 4:53am

Megan Fox is smoking hot. Jenna Fischer is borderline average looking.

Anonymous on Wed, 10/21/2009 - 2:22am

"Megan Fox is smoking hot. Jenna Fischer is borderline average looking."

Okay weird that a guy felt strongly enough to get onto a women's site to shoot down Jenna! Lol! Sure she isn't 'hot' in they way most guys care about. But I like how she's down to earth, that should count! That she's average, maybe even slightly unattractive now that I look at her rather sharp facial features makes her accessible to most women. We can't all be hot like Megan Fox, but now we can aspire to Jenna!

ElzaB on Wed, 10/21/2009 - 2:41am

mamasitamali I profoundly disagree with you're incoherent position on how we should view an imperfection as something to embrace. How does it help make anyone better off to instead of working hard and aiming for perfection settle instead for your type of fatalistic illogic that doesn't even make it to being a pseudophilosophical case for conformity? I do agree with you on one thing, we shouldn't laugh at our imperfections nor at ourselves for no good reason. But that's where it ends and I urge you to rethink repeatedly until it becomes clear that what we should do to our imperfections is eliminate them because we should want to always be better. That doesn't mean being unhappy either, why? We can be proud that we're at least trying to improve upon ourselves.

ElzaB on Wed, 10/21/2009 - 2:56am

to the poster that says "Megan Fox is hot"....check out her thumbs in the next picture you see of her - nobody's perfect!

FitSugar Says:

I'm a huge fan of The Office, mostly because I've loved following the romance between the adorable receptionist Pam and her co-worker, now husband, Jim Halpert. Check out the cover of the November issue of Shape to see that Jenna Fischer, who plays the down-to-earth Pam, is smokin' hot once she takes off her cardigan and pearls. This wasn't always the case though.

After a horrible accident two years ago, falling down a flight of stairs and breaking her back in four places, Jenna became depressed and felt a little sorry for herself. So she drowned her sorrows with cheeseburgers and doughnuts, which led to some weight gain — 10 pounds. But once she fully recovered, Jenna started hiking with friends, cutting back on the high fat indulgences, and lost a few pounds this way. Although her life was growing hectic and she wanted to lose a few more pounds, she ditched her trainer and worked out on her own at home or hit the gym five days a week. This busy actress continues this routine to stay in shape. Jenna says, "I’m lucky because my fiancé will work out with me, and we keep each other motivated." Now she's thrilled to be back in size 26 jeans.

Proving that she is as down to earth as the character she portrays weekly, Jenna offers some simple wisdom on body image: "If I could tell women one thing, it would be that everyone worries about their bodies and what they look like in their clothes . . . But rather than complain about it, we should be laughing at our imperfections to make ourselves feel better."
