For wine stains in rugs, what I have found to be SUPER effective is to dilute the area with cold water, and then just dump piles and piles of salt directly onto the spill. Don't remove the salt until it hardens into pinkish-colored bricks, then pick them up, and vacuum away the remaining grains that didn't absorb the liquid. I did this on my cream colored rug right when it spilled, and there's not even a hint of stain

City girl, this worked for me with coffee as well. Spilled it on my beige ottoman, covered it with table salt, and it absorbed it and the color right up!

I have also heard that white wine on red wine can rid the stain.. not sure if that is true or not.

Also liked the idea of mixing laundry soap with hydrogen peroxide..nice!

I get a product called "wine out" (you can find it on amazon). You spray it on, blot, and out it comes. Seriously, I spilled a half bottle on a bone white shag rug. I sprayed (almost the entire mini bottle) of wine out and first it turns brown, and then by the next day when it dried, it was all gone.

So easy for tiny spills, and works very quickly, which usually makes guests feel better when they spill wine at your house.

My secret weapon against red wine stains is Dawn dish detergent! I use it to pretreat the stains and then wash clothes or table linens as usual. It works every time, including on a year old stain on a white tank top.

So I used to be a faithful salt user for wine stains on carpet, clothes, ect... But now I found something even better. SELTZER water (or club soda, same thing).

Just pour the seltzer on the stain, don't be afraid to put too much. And then just bolt away.

No need to remove the salt after wards, or rinse of the detergent.

Believe me it works miracles!
