He must live alone!

sgdish on Thu, 01/31/2008 - 4:51am

I would feel too closterphobic... but its cute!

ur_momm on Thu, 01/31/2008 - 5:12am

I can't live in tiny spaces...I need lots of room for all my stuff!

emalove on Thu, 01/31/2008 - 5:34am

I would be scared to sleep in that tiny space for his bedroom. What if there was a fire while he slept?

Catipa on Thu, 01/31/2008 - 5:54am

Oh wow, no way.

aimeeb on Thu, 01/31/2008 - 6:26am

I have 2 pets and way too much stuff!

megafie on Thu, 01/31/2008 - 6:39am

I can't see it!

Lovely_1 on Thu, 01/31/2008 - 6:50am

I couldn't just because I am part of a 3 person family at the moment so there is no way we'd all fit lol but I think if I was by myself I would give it a shot... why not? Seems kind of cool but a little lonely.

gab6784 on Thu, 01/31/2008 - 7:04am

Nope no way I could do that.

kikidawn on Thu, 01/31/2008 - 7:14am

omg im getting clausterphobic just watching the video!!

dqsgirlxo on Thu, 01/31/2008 - 7:20am

OMG, I was getting claustrophobic just watching the video! I hate small spaces, and I would definitely NOT live there! I don't think I would even visit if a friend lived there, actually. I don't need a big Mac Mansion but I also don't want to feel like I can't stretch my legs! God, what a weird living situation.

HipMom on Thu, 01/31/2008 - 7:31am

wow, the small space is even worse by having those tilted-in walls

geohiker on Thu, 01/31/2008 - 7:48am

Not with a boyfriend and a dog!

Le Luxe on Thu, 01/31/2008 - 7:51am

I could live in that tiny house if I were alone like that guy. It makes sense as to what his reasons why he's building small houses----less stuff, less cleaning, etc. We want bigger houses because oftentimes we like more storage for stuff that we don't really need. But we hate purging them or cleaning or even organizing.
This would be challenge. That was not bad. The only thing that would bother me is the bathroom. The shower is so close to the toilet bowl.

bingkaycoy on Thu, 01/31/2008 - 8:07am

Um, no. I do sometimes think I could do one of those 500 square feet models at Ikea. (Until I move up to the 1,000 and like that one so much better.)

SweetnLow on Thu, 01/31/2008 - 8:28am

I would be afraid I would knock over the drinking glasses each time I walked by them.

motherof3 on Thu, 01/31/2008 - 8:31am

I would go insane in a house that tiny.

Twinkle on Thu, 01/31/2008 - 8:44am

How could you possibly have sex in that "bedroom"? I couldn't live in a house that small, I'd feel way too confined.

number6_ed on Thu, 01/31/2008 - 8:58am

I didn't care much for the way he stores his glasses. He lives alon and doesn't need more than 10 glasses, doesn't he?

Actually, I love the house. I'm sure people can get used to it. I'm sure the guy spends a lot of time outdoors, which always should be encouraged.

theavalanches on Thu, 01/31/2008 - 9:39am

WOW! And I thought our condo was small.

DesignRchic on Thu, 01/31/2008 - 11:20am

Might be fun for a holiday... not forever, and certainly not if there was more than one of you - you'd keep tripping over!

piesecki on Thu, 01/31/2008 - 11:46am

No way. Not only is the house completely inpractical, (you can't excersize, or even have company over) but if there were any sort of emergency, he would have a terrible time getting out of the house. If he wants to be environmentally friendly, he should have just bought an old house and renovated it to have solar power, etc.

JovianSkies on Thu, 01/31/2008 - 11:48am

i would love to live in a place like that. There would be no challange. i have lived in a studio with my BF and dog. we loved it.

AujahAcorn on Thu, 01/31/2008 - 12:14pm

When he said that the bathroom is the shower, I almost had a heart attack because I had imagined something totally different. When they actually showed the toilet, I was relieved.

OC_ivory on Thu, 01/31/2008 - 10:03pm

I have done this to a degree. My husband AND 2 kids lived in a 20 ft trailer for about 6 mo while looking for a house. It had about 1 foot wide for a walkway and the bathroom looked just like this guys. It is amazing all the things we think we HAVE to have but when you narrow it down you really need very little.

live 4 gossip on Sat, 02/02/2008 - 11:34am

Umm this has absolutely nothing to do with the house but at the end of the video during like the "outtakes" did the chick that was filming it say "show me your ass"?

Jay Shafer has lived in tiny houses measuring in at under 100 square feet for over 10 years, mostly because he says he hates vacuuming. I'm intrigued, but know that I'd have a hard time living in a place like this. However, I think it's a great way to really figure out what material goods are needed, and which ones you can live without. Watch the video to check out all of the home's highlights, and to hear Jay talk about the method behind his tiny-home madness.
