Ivanka Trump Is Shutting Down Her Namesake Fashion Brand; Here's What We Know So Far

Today in "how on earth did this not happen sooner?" news, Ivanka Trump is shutting down her namesake fashion brand for good in order to focus on her role as senior White House advisor, The Wall Street Journal reports. Ivanka founded the clothing and accessories company in 2011 as a source of "chic, affordable, easy to wear pieces for modern women," and it has been riddled with debate ever since her father, Donald Trump, took presidential office in 2017. Popular retailers like Nordstrom, the Home Shopping Network, and Marshalls have dropped the brand from stores in the past year and a half due to low performance.

Ivanka "has grown frustrated by restrictions she placed on the company to avoid conflicts of interest," which ultimately influenced her decision to bid adieu to her eponymous company, according to The Wall Street Journal. Ivanka released the following statement regarding the news of her business's closure: "When we first started this brand, no one could have predicted the success that we would achieve. After 17 months in Washington, I do not know when or if I will ever return to the business, but I do know that my focus for the foreseeable future will be the work I am doing here in Washington, so making this decision now is the only fair outcome for my team and partners."

As you can imagine, people have some pretty passionate feelings about Ivanka officially closing her fashion brand, evidenced by the tweets ahead.
