Shakira's Sequined VMAs Dress Comes With an Entirely Open Back

Shakira has a big night ahead of her at the 2023 VMAs, and she's kicking off the evening with a fitting look. On Sept. 12, the Colombian-born star appeared at New Jersey's Prudential Center wearing the boldest of gowns. Her sequined Versace dress featured all the elements of a revealing red carpet look: cutouts down the sides, an entirely open back, and a high slit up to her upper thigh.

Her two sons with ex Gerard Piqué, Sasha and Milan, stood by their mom in adorable matching Versace sweatsuits. As for the rest of Shakira's ensemble, she kept her glam and accessories minimal, simply adding several rings and gold earrings. She rocked a soft smoky eye and wore her hair in tousled waves.

Shakira last attended an award show in late July, where she was recognized for eight different categories at the Premios Juventud Awards in Puerto Rico. There, she stunned in a fiery red minidress with a sultry one-shoulder detail.

With already four VMAs under her belt, the singer is set to receive MTV's Video Vanguard Award during the ceremony, making her the first South American and second Latina artist to receive the honor. Her upcoming career-spanning performance at the show marks her first on the VMAs stage in 17 years, and she's also up for three different awards. It's safe to say we can certainly expect standout looks to come from Shakira throughout the night.
